The dynamic response characteristics of pile stresses were examined for a seismically-isolated building founded on ground with inclined bedrock. A simplified building model with a regular plan configuration was employed to elucidate the pile response mechanisms, in which the longitudinal axis was aligned with the inclination of the bedrock in a two-dimensional ground model. The results indicate that phase differences in ground motions along the longitudinal direction lead to increased pile stresses at both ends of the building, primarily due to the transfer of axial forces induced by the constraining effect of the foundation’s axial stiffness.
