Abstract
Through the special meanings of certain words in the "De re aedificatoria", I researched the design method of L.B. Alberti. Making use of the word "line", I believe, Alberti has intended to explain a kind of elevation as a new objective method of project, but at the same time he staied in the tendency of plain surface imagination. "Lineament" meant the classical forms, figures of surface, of plan, and general character of design in relation to utility. These meanings had been chiefly impressed by his own discovery of classical figures of architecture. So had these many meanings figural imaginations for himself. I suppose that these figural classical imaginations have mediated a synthetic conception : "dignitas", between the esthetical idea and real composite imaginations.
