In this treatise which was divided into two parts I examined a few problems related to the formation process of the architectural style called 'Hachiman-zukuri' of Japanese Shinto-shrine. In conclusion, I proved and insisted on the following points newly. 1) The primitive shrines constitution of Usa-Hachimangu was made up of two (or three since 823 A.D.) oblong plan buildings disposed in series that were called respectively the god's or goddess's 'Hosodono', and originally those were the provisional but sacred places themselves for the Shinto ritual to where the god called 'Yahata' and the goddess called 'Himeokami' visited from their usual dwellings on the fete occation, that were transmitted in legendry three large stones on the top of Mt. Omoto (Makinomine) in Usa district. 2) The architectural style called 'Hachiman-zukuri' was established at the time that Iwashimizu-Hachimangu shrine was founded in 859〜860 A.D. 3) The aforesaid primitive sanctuaries of Usa-Hachimangu shrine evolved reversely to 'Hachiman-zukuri' style at the first periodic reconstruction in 889 A.D. under the influence of Iwashimizu-Hachimangu shrine. 4) The main shrines of Iwashimizu-Hachimangu were roof-continued shape since it's foundation time in opposition to the recent opinion by Dr. Mitsuyoshi Tsuchida and Dr. Seiroku Ota.
