In Japan, since the new code for base-isolation design was established in 2000, all of the isolation devices shall be pre-qualified by government. In the pre-qualification, manufactures are required to submit various technical data supported by experiment. A working group of JSSI has been working for survey and analysis, in order to provide useful technical information of sliding bearings to the structural engineers. This paper presents the summary of those investigation-results of the sliding friction characteristic: velocity dependence; compressive-stress dependence; temperature dependence; repetition dependence.
