This paper aims to clarify transition and measures to preserve continuous hedges in residential areas in the case of Tonomachi district in Matsuzaka City.
Findings are as follows: 1)Hedges in private area have decreased for last 20 years, 2)The reasons of decreasing hedges are rebuilding houses, changing to flagpole shape sites, changing to vacant houses and lots, changing to parking lots and conversion from houses to others, 3)Local people have been concerned about decrease of hedges and want to preserve continuous hedges, 4)There are some difficulties to preserve continuous hedges by restrictions of district planning, so it is required to revise district planning and so on.
