We have designed a new Zen garden using the three-dimensional data of the garden stones. The site is in the precincts of temple established in 14th century, facility to practice, not for tourism. Exclusive and expensive, constructing traditional Japanese gardens is many people think. We have reduced the construction period nearly by half without much compromise in terms of the pursuit for fine designs. 3D-information accurate enough to describe the surface texture of each stone is very helpful in both stone arrangement and overall layout of the garden. 3D-printed model is also a useful tool to share the idea intuitively among client, builder and designer.
