This paper reports the comparative results from surveys of physically disabled people, especially orthopedically-impaired people, on their awareness and evaluation of disaster evacuation in an urban environment, in 2010 (before the East Japan Earthquake) and 2012 (after the Earthquake).
On the whole, respondents’ awareness of disaster preparedness is insufficient, and many suffer from vague anxiety. Consequently, it is still necessary to implement and confirm the existence of support systems and routes at the time of their evacuation.
