This paper reports on the number and distribution of thatched houses in Iga City, Mie Prefecture, and Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. In this survey, 980 houses were found to be extant in Iga City and 361 in Koka City, with the distribution clustered in the northwestern part of Iga City and the south-central part of Koka City. In addition, 97.7% of thatched houses in Iga City and 96.7% of thatched houses in Koka City have roofs covered with metal sheets.
