Abstract

There are approximately 30,000 public schools nationwide. Many of these buildings are over 40 years old, and require rebuilding or refurbishing. In addition, future public school facilities must flexibly response to various issues, such as diversifying learning styles, barrier-free, centralization for local communities, effective evacuation facility, and so on. In this paper, we focused on the planning guidelines for public school facilities formulated as master plans by local governments. First, we clarified the status nationwide. Then, as a case study, a participant observation survey in Nagaizumi Town, analysed the formulation process and the significance of them.
