This study explores the early movement of space architecture research in Japan in the 1990s. The paper examines how early space architecture research in Japan differed from the way research in the same field developed in the United States. Results here highlight how research on space architecture in Japan was conducted by CEGAS, a joint team of general contractors who took a unique stance on the world’s future space development, having a special role to play, especially in the construction of space facilities.
