The purpose of this study was to develop and verify the performance of end joint in the development of a wooden truss specification for spans over 20 m using residential timber. In order to satisfy the performance requirement, the authors devised a double rafter end joint and conducted experiments and analyses. The performance obtained in the experiment was close to the objective performance. The upper and lower rafters were found to bear the load approximately equally. Comparison of the experimental results with the theoretical formulas for the horizontal stiffness of the end joints showed that the results differed.
