This paper discusses the history of the reception of art space in Kagawa. The origin of Japanese art space is considered to be the space of shrines and temples, and is found in Kotohira Shrine. Historically, the shrine has supported artists such as Maruyama Okyo and Yuichi Takahashi. It was not until the postwar period that a modern art museum was built in Kagawa. The Takamatsu Art Museum designed by Bunzo Yamaguchi, which opened in 1948, can be regarded as the first modern public art museum in Japan. Through research, it will reveal the advanced nature of this museum.
