As of April 1, 2023, 45 prefectures and 51 municipalities have enacted the Cliff Ordinances in Japan. Many differences were found in the definition of applicable cliffs, the extent of regulated sites, applicable buildings, and the conditions for exemptions. These differences could be used to discourage construction near cliffs.
