The use of buckling-restrained brace in frames shortens the natural period and possibly increases the seismic input. To overcome this issue, this paper proposes a displacement-restraint buckling-restrained brace in which no axial force occurs initially and the axial force occurs with a delay. Thereby, the natural period can maintain the same level as the moment frame without bracing and the concentration of the deformation into the local stories can be avoided. In this study, a trial design and seismic response analyses of a high-rise building model are conducted to reveal the effectiveness of the proposed braces.
