Abstract

The development of Carbon Fiber Thermoplastics (CFRTP) stranded wire has been underway since 2007. Eight years later, CFRTP wire was first used as an additional element for seismic reinforcement in a building in Ishikawa. Later, it was standardized under Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS A 5571) in 2019. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the basic physical properties and particularly tensile strength of CFRTP wire. This study aims to specify its tensile strength as stranded wire, considering the effect of twist, based on the effective cross-sectional area of the wire, which is not clearly defined in the JIS.
