Abstract

To develop an appropriate experimental method for a mud-wall element without the influence of moment resistance at column joints, cyclic shear loading tests were conducted on two types of mud-wall specimens with pin-connected column joints. One type used steel tenons instead of traditional wooden Hozo joints, while the other employed clevis joints. These modifications aimed to remove the influence of column joints of the mud-wall elements. The restoring force characteristics and failure process were observed and compared with previous mud-wall tests. Test results indicate that both types of specimens effectively eliminate the influence of column joints.
