This is the report about the first stage urban design acts for restructuring built-up residential area in Hachiman, Sendai. In Hachiman area, historical environment, which had been succeeded to since Edo era, have been destroyed, and the quality of urban space has been diminished by lack of the vision for urban construction. We not only designed spatial image on the basis of regional research, but also published the scheme to the inhabitants positively for the purpose of realizing characteristic urban space, brewing citizen sense of solidarity and developing city life.
