The conflict in Northern Ireland is often considered to be resolved from international perspectives, but this does not reflect the reality there. There are renewed contestations over geographical borders and persistent sectarianism. Brexit has been a polarizing factor in sharpening identities and geographic borders between the EU/UK and Ireland/Northern Ireland. Sectarianism continues to carve up spaces in certain urban areas and political bonfires occur where a conflagration of flags and effigies take place. These issues will be explored and the presentation will show that while large scale hostilities have ended, low level collisions, sectarianism and geographic contestations remain.
