As cherry cultivation is considered to have succeeded in production development after the lifting of the import ban, the factors of the increase of domestic cherry production were analyzed. Even after the lifting of the import ban, domestic cherry production stood at an advantage over imported cherries in terms of market competition such that imports has decreased. The advantage factors for domestic cherries are relatively little difference in supply cost, direct marketing by which domestic cherries can be sold at high price, and so on. However, it must be noted that Japanese position in the international cherry market has declined because of an increase of imports by East Asia countries other than Japan.
