The single-crystal structure of benzodiazepin-2,4-dione (C₉H₈N₂O₂) was determined at room temperature. The compound is monoclinic, P2₁/m with Z = 2, the molecule is symmetrical to the mirror. The unit-cell dimensions are a = 8.5421(18)Å, b = 11.671(5)Å, c = 4.037(5)Å, β = 97.58(2)° and V = 399.0(5)Å³. The R value is 0.0786 for 322 observed reflections.
