A new antibiotic which inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria and fungi was isolated from the broth and mycelial pellets of Streptomyces ASY-52. The antibiotic was obtained as pale buff minute needles with a yellow tinge which on acid hydrolysis gave eight ninhydrin-positive products including arginine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, alanine, phenylalanine and isoleucine. Characteristics of the organism, isolation of the antibiotic as well as its physical, chemical and biological properties are given.
