According to the experimental results, demonstrated by FUJIE, that the surplus secretion of gastric hormone productin (FUJIE) can induce various pathologic changes in the gastric mucous membrane, the author has attempted to research the above results from a view-point of the functional movements of the minute cell-structure. For this purpose, the author fed rats with artificial food, injecting histamine hydrochloride (daily 3mg) subcutaneously, then prepared 5 stages in which histamine were injected 1, 15, 30, 45 and 60 times. On each stage, the peptic cells were observed before and after the administration of diet.
The results obtained here are summarized in a graph (in P. 380). It is demonstrated that an increase of histamine injection brings about an unbalance of the secretory function in the peptic cells, vigorous production of secretion granules being maintained and discharge of them going down. In the peptic cells, secretion granules, with abnormally corpulent ones, are always accumulated and plastosomes (mitochondria) keep a marked transformation, however secretion vacuoles are hardly found. The seobservations of the cell-structures demonstrate the superiority in production and the inferiority in discharge of secretion granules in each case.
On the other hand, the author often recognized degenerated peptic cells in the examples, in which histamine was injected more than 30 times. According to the finding on the degeneration of cells, the mechanism and the progression of the degeneration is regarded as a result of an unbalance of the secretory function in the peptic cells. The degenerating phenomena of the peptic cells is also a partial phenomenon of the functional unbalance.
