In the field of nanotechnology not only do we need interdisciplinary knowledge across various materials of every fields in order to design sophisticated nano-materials, but also we need to control nano- to macro-scale structures using macro scale processes. Thus, product development goes stepwise from nanoscience through nanotechnology, completing with nanomanufacturing production technology.
To meet these requirements, a knowledge platform has been constructed in the national project where a huge volume of knowledge related to nanoscience, nanotechnology and nanomanufacturing are structured, accessible just-in-time at various scenes of product designing and manufacturing. The platform consists of three layers; knowledge layer, information layer, and data layer. Among these, the knowledge layer is comparatively important in respect of user/platform interfaces. We studied a novel search system for the platform using natural language processing methodology and applied a nanomanufacturing thesaurus. Development and application for the platform contents are presented.
