Abstract
The effect of nucleic acid related compounds on the mycelial growth of edible mushrooms were examined. Ribonucleic acid (RNA-M) and 5'-nucleotide mixture (RNA-Nt) were tested for Lentinula edodes, Pholiota nameko, Glifola frondosa, Hypsizygus marmoreus and Pleurotus eryngii. RNA-M and RNA-Nt were useful additives for all 5 species used in the experiments. RNA-Nt was more effective in the liquid medium. In contrast, RNA-M resulted higher effect in the agar and sawdustbased substrate. Maximum growth was observed at 0.5% addition on the agar medium and 1.0% addition in the sawdust-based medium, respectively. Growth index was calculated to be 141 and 151 in L. edodes at the most effective additional ratio on respective media.
