A species of the family Lycosidae, Venonia spirocysta Chai 1991, is reported from Japan for the first time. The specimens of the species were collected from Tarama-jima Island, Okinawa Prefecture. The genus Venonia is also newly recorded from Japan, but since the generic placement of V. spirocysta is problematic, this species may be transferred to another genus in the future.
