Abstract
Sclerone, mp 138_??_140°C, C10H10O3 was isolated from the culture filtrate of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. This is optically active, [α]20D-30°, and gave 1, 5-naphthalenediol on pyrolysis. Oxidation with MnO2 yielded juglone. From the chemical and physical evidences, the structure was determined to be 4, 5-dihydroxy-(4S)-3, 4-dihydro-1(2H)-naphthalenone.
