The tetraketide origin of epoxydon I produced by Phyllosticta sp. is established by ¹³C NMR measurement on labelled epoxydons obtained from 1-¹³C- and 2-¹³C-acetate. The chlorinating mechanism of epoxydon to form non-enzymatically compound IV, V and VI was also confirmed by exposing epoxydon to the culture broth.
