The Structures of Minor Congeners of the Detoxin Complex

Abstract

The structures of minor congeners of the detoxin complex, viz., detoxins E₁, C₁, C₂, C₃, B₁, B₃ and A₁, have been established on the basis of degradative and spectroscopic evidences.
It is of interest that the detoxin B group contains 5-deoxydetoxinine in place of detoxinine, and that a change of the terminal amino acid residue from L-valine to L-isoleucine was first recognized in detoxin E₁.
The structure-activity relationship of the detoxin compounds is discussed with comparison of their antagonistic activities against blasticidin S.
