The determination of nitrite in aqueous solution in the presence of chlorite was carried out by spectrophotometry after reduction of chlorite with hydrazine at 20°C. More than 12 hrs. are necessary for the completion of the reduction reaction. The presence of tenfold amount of chlorite does not essentially disturb the determination of nitrite. The disturbance of nitrate ions due to reduction by hydrazine is also negligible under the condition adopted.
