Abstract

In Lake Biwa, damage of native species’ predation by invasive alien fishes is a problem, and sports fishing for invasive alien fishes is very active. In Shiga Prefecture, regulations to prohibit the release of invasive alien fishes was enacted in 2002, but many anglers are still releasing them. In this research, we aimed to clarify the factor and knowledge for mechanism of release behavior for invasive alien fishes in Lake Biwa. We conducted a questionnaire survey targeting to anglers at coast of Lake Biwa. It was clarified that there were three factors of release behavior: protection consciousness to fishing resources, low recognition of invasive alien species’ problems in Lake Biwa and installation situation of collection boxes for invasive alien fishes.
