Abstract

We verified the UTCI index whether it is useful for a climate stress information, by confirming of daily heat and cold stresses at inland basin from actual human physiological changes. Calculated UTCI values indicated a large difference of morning 7 °C and daytime 30 °C in our observation period. When subjects experienced both stresses of cold and heat of the day, the UTCI information strongly related to their thermal sensations, skin temperatures, blood pressures, and heart rate variabilities. The UTCI and physiological changes also represented the thermophysiologically lowest-level stress in the lower 20 °C range and the increasing stress for shifting to both cold and heat conditions.
