Abstract

Degraded mangrove areas have increased and become a critical issue in Riau, Indonesia. Thus, local people are required to use and manage the remaining natural resources sustainably. In this study, interviews and network analysis were applied to identify the connections and strengths of mangrove ecosystem functions and services, and human wellbeing which this ecosystem brings to three ecotourism villages. As a result, the strength of connections and the component of ecosystem functions, services, and human wellbeing, which local people perceived varied among the villages. An ecosystem assessment which encompasses natural resource management and human wellbeing can be a useful approach for sustainable community-based management.
