Hokkaido Nemuro district has a northern area and a southern area. Salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) catch is 20.3% in the southern region compared to the northern region. It is pointed out that this may be due to differences in the survival rate of salmon fry. This can be attributed to changes in river water quality due to basin land use. Compared to the northern district, the southern district had a smaller basin forest rate, more nitrogen input per hectare of the basin, and higher concentrations of NO3-N, acid-soluble Fe, and acid-soluble Al in river water. These facts suggest that river water quality changes due to basin land use, and there is a concern that it has some effect on salmon fry.
