Abstract

Because of Japan’s declining population and aging population, the necessity of sustainable city development is recognized, then compact city policies have been introduced in Japan. In this paper, we clarify problems which could be possible to occur after introducing compact city policies by simulating basic land-use patterns. We show some characteristics for each land-use pattern by comparing their transformations under some conditions. From our results, the city planning is suggested to require a long term perspective with considering the change of urban structure by aging of citizens. Furthermore, we need to formulate city planning based on the characteristics of urban structures.
