Abstract

This study aimed to clarify the factors affecting initiative of local residents for the management activities for conservation and restoration of lagoon. The relationship between Lake Biwa and the lagoons and the trust in the water environment conservation policy were investigated by questionnaire surveys to local residents near two lagoons. 561 responses were obtained and analyzed by structural equation modeling. As a result, (i) value and trust in conservation policies of Lake Biwa were affected those of the lagoons; (ii) the residents who trust in the water environment policy had high motivation for lagoon conservation; and (iii) value of Lake Biwa and the lagoons had most impact on their initiative of conservation activities.
