Boron content of mature leaf sampled in winter was investigated for 26 plants of 2 varieties of tea plant (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze). The boron content of C. sinensis var. assamica was greater than that of C. sinensis var. sinensis and there was a difference in that between the Chinese plants and the Japanese plants both belonging to var. sinensis.
Mean and range of boron content were 29.9 ppm and 28 ppm for var. assamica, 23.0 ppm and 11 ppm for Chinese plants and 22.3 ppm and 6.5 ppm for Japanese plants, respectively. C. sinenis var. assamica was characterized by its high boron content and wide variation as compared with var. sinensis.
