For the purpose of clarifying the clinical value of cephradine, the antibacterial action, transfer in body, and clinical result were investigated with the drug, and the following findings were observed.
1. The distribution of sensitivities to cephradine was pursued on 268 strains clinically isolated recently, and the antibacterial action was proved to be similar to that of cephalexin; 93% being between 1.56-25, μg/ml with Staphylococcus aureus, and 77% between 6. 25-25 μ/ml with E. coli.
2. The blood level and urinary excretion rose quite rapidly, and lowered early, being thus closely similar to those with cephalexin.
3. The faetal level of cephradine was comparatively good, exhibiting 1/2-1/3 of mother : child ratio ofblood level. Only the milk level was poor, except a patient of mastitis.
4. Cephradine was administered orally in 15 cases of obstetrics and gynecological infections at adaily dose of 1-2 g for 4-10 days, and its usefulness was noticed in 9 cases, including a remarkably effective case of pelviperitonitis. No noteworthy influence was observed throughout all the cases treated by cephradine
