The aim of this study was to develop a technique to calculate some parameters for the size and form of each marbling of rib-eye area using a computer image analysis (CIA) method. Fat percentage on rib-eye area, number of marblings, area and form coefficient of each marbling were measured. The measurement objects were No. 2-No. 12 model of BMS and pictures around ribeye area from 16 Japanese Black (JB) steers. Correlation coefficient between fat percentage by CIA and the marbling score (MS) on JB was high(r=0.87, P<0.01). The MS evaluated by judgment tended to be higher than the MS calculated by CIA. Correlation coefficient between the difference (MS by judgment-MS by CIA) and the form coefficie (particle area_??_0.1cm2) was significant and positive (r=0.64).
