Luosanfung is a foehn wind blowing on the west coast of Hengchun Peninsula, the southern-most part of Taiwan. In order to describe its climatological features, observed records at the meteorological observatories and a result of field observation by the author were analysed and the following summaries are obtained. It blows strongly in the winter months, particularly under the winter monsoon synoptic situation. In addition to the macro-scale winter monsoon situation, when the local anticyclone is formed in the region of the mouth of Yangtze River and the cyclone in the Basi Channel, NE wind develops strongly on the southern-most part of Taiwan. In most cases, Luosanfung develops more at night than in day time. Air temperature is 2-3℃ warmer, relative humidity is lower and sunshine hour is longer on the west coast than on the east coast under the typical Luosanfung condition. The local peoples suffer frorn the strong wind for bicycle or motor-cycle driving, house construction and agricultural land use. The onion production is increasing by utilizing the wind conditions in this area. According to an estimation by the wind-shaped trees, Luosanfung develops on the west coast after passing over the low mountain area and flowing down along the relatively lower parts of the hilly area.
