The authors have clarified that the main reason of the characteristics change of lateral force behavior in shallow water could be the large-scale flow structure change due to the blockage effect at ship bottom. The correlation between hull-form-factors and lateral force behaviors have been investigated by means of the series of mathematical hull forms. The present study has tried to clarify the mechanisms of characteristics change of hydrodynamic force behavior in connection with the higher-order factors of hull forms. The numerical approach using mathematical hull forms was advanced, and the correlation with displacement volume distributions and local fineness of hull forms were investigated. Experimental verifications of hull form factor dependencies were made by changing draft largely. This study enables us to understand the details of correlation between hull form factors and lateral force behaviors at shall water, and it may contribute to increase the safety margins at port area operations.
