The ultraviolet absorption spectra of the metabolites from the urine of rabbits receiving MHB, the oxidation products of MHB and nor-MHB with chromium trioxide were measured, and the relation between these compounds and their structures was discussed. The infrared absorption spectra of 3-keto-MHB and MHB-M (II) from the previous work in this series indicated that the two are completely identical and would be α, β-unsaturated ketones and that of 3-OH-MHB suggested the existence of a hydroxyl group in the structure.
