Abstract
d-N6-Demethyl lysergic acid diethlyamide (V) was synthesized by the following procedures. von Braun reaction of d-lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) (I) gave d-N6-cyano-N6-demethyl LSD (II), followed by alkaline hydrolysis in dioxane to give mainly urea type compound (IV) together with a trace of V. The conversion of IV to V was achieved by treatment with sodium nitrite and tartaric acid. On the other hand, alkaline hydrolysis of II in MeOH gave isourea type compound (VI) and a small amount of V.
