Investigation was made on the oxidation of dipropyl disulfide with hydrogen peroxide in acetic acid, as a basis for kinetic studies in the synthesis of thiamine propyl disulfide (TPD). Separation and detection methods of the oxidation products by thin-layer chromatography were established. Among these products, thiolsulfinate (PrSSOPr), thiolsulfonate (PrSSO2Pr), sulfinic acid and sulfonic acid were identified. The stability, solubility, IR and UV-spectrum of PrSSOPr and PrSSO2Pr, which react with thiamine to produce TPD, were examined.
