The cultured filtrates of Streptomyces were screened for the anti-thymidine kinase activity using the homogenate of Yoshida sarcoma cells and (methyl-3H)-thymidine to obtain antitumor antibiotics. The active component produced by Streptomyces yokosukanensis was isolated and determined to be a new acid phosphatase (E.C. 3.1.3.2.). Production, isolation, purification, effect of pH on the activity, stability, effect of temperature on the activity, effect of inhibitors on the activity and substrate specifity are described.
