Abstract
The chemical structure of platycodin-D, C57H92O28, [α]21D-32.3°(MeOH), which was isolated from platycodi radix (root of Platycodon grandiflorum A. DC.) was elucidated as I on the basis of physical data of platycodin-D, its derivatives and degradation products. It should be noted that platycodin-D is the first example of saponin containing apiose in the sugar moiety.
