Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) was orally administered to female C57BL mice (0.02, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 ml/kg). Activities of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) were recorded at 15, 24, 39, 48, 63, 72 and 87 hr after administration. SGOT levels rose more slowly but reached higher maximum levels later in mice given higher doses of CCl4. Therefore, an inverse dose response was observed at earlier times after drug administration. This phenomenon was observed also in female C3H mice and male and adrenalectomized female C57BL mice.
