Abstract
A new synthetic method using ethyl 3-ethoxymethylene-2, 4-dioxovalerate and phenylhydroxylamine gave 2-acetyl-3-hydroxy-5-phenylmaleimide in moderate yield. The pathway of this reaction is discussed.
