Abstract

A biogenetic-type synthesis of a dihydroisocoumarin, 3, 4-dihydro-8-hydroxy-3-phenylisocoumarin (1), from trans-cinnamaldehyde (13) modelled on the polyketide mode of biosynthesis is described.
