Induction of terminal differentiation of human myelogenous leukemia cells, HL-60, was caused by terephthalic acid mono-5, 5, 8, 8-tetramethyl-5, 6, 7, 8-tetrahydro-2-naphthylamide. The differentiated cells are morphologically and functionally granulocyte-like. The minimum concentration for detectable activity is less than 10-10M (0.04 ng/ml), and differentiation reaches a maximum at about 10-8-10-9M.
