Abstract
Syntheses of 1-methyl-2-azathiabenzene 1-oxide and its 5-methyl derivative are described. The physical (1H-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and13C-NMR spectra) and chemical properties (deuteration, bromination, and nitration) suggest that 1-methyl-2-azathiabenzene 1-oxides are best considered as cyclic sulfur ylides.
